My blog topic today will deviate a little from the norm. I just feel like it is SO important to get this information out to my clients in this digital age. We do more and more electronically in Real Estate these days. Information is being exchanged via e-mail, texting, apps, etc. and it is all a big part of helping people sell their property and find their next home in a more timely manner. However, you need to be vigilant about the transfer of information. Be certain that you are truly communicating with the person you are working with...hackers are becoming very sophisticated. They are tricking clients into believing they are sending personal and confidential information to the agent, banker, and/or title company they are working with when in reality, everything is going directly to the hacker. This can be devastating! And, by the time it is discovered, the damage has been done.

This is especially true when transferring funds for closing. Never trust wiring instructions sent via email.  Never change wiring instructions based on an email.  Cyber criminals are hacking email accounts and sending emails with fraudulent wiring instructions. These emails are convincing and sophisticated.  Always independently confirm wiring instructions in person or via a telephone call to a trusted and verified phone number just before wiring the funds. Never wire money without double-checking that the wiring instructions are correct. Once money has been wired, it's gone and there is little to no chance of recovering it.

We do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our clients and their personal information. Whenever there is an exchange of personal information it is done in person or over the phone with a direct phone call and caller ID verification. We want your real estate experience to be enjoyable, expedient AND safe! We hope you will call us the next time you need to buy or sell. We're here to help!

Best Always,

Dick
